BLURB:

The climactic novel in Lara Adrian's "New York Times" bestselling Midnight Breed series--and her hardcover debut--"Darker After Midnight" invites readers to enter a thrillingly sensual world where danger meets desire.
In the dark of night, a blood war escalates within the hidden world of the Breed. After existing in secret for many long centuries, maintaining a fragile peace with the humans who walk beside them unaware, a single act of retaliation has put the entire vampire nation at risk of discovery. It falls to the Order--a cadre of Breed warriors pledged to protect their own and humankind alike--to stop Dragos, the power-mad vampire at the center of the conflict, before his push for domination can explode into catastrophe.
At the center of the Order's quest is Sterling Chase, once a morally rigid enforcer of Breed law, now a warrior fallen from grace, whose biggest battle is the one he wages against his own savage nature. With addiction beckoning him toward eternal darkness, Chase's path to redemption has never seemed more out of reach. But when his eyes meet those of Tavia Fairchild, a beautiful witness who identifies him at the scene of a mission gone terribly wrong, Chase finds himself drawn to the woman--and convinced she is something much more than she seems.
Pulled into a vortex of intrigue and danger she can neither resist nor understand, Tavia is uncertain whom to trust. And while everything sane and logical warns her against getting close to Chase, she cannot deny that the handsome, deeply haunted male stirs something primal and ravenous within her. But even as she surrenders to her cravings, nothing can prepare her for the shattering truth of who--and what--she truly is.
As the Order's enemy mobilizes for the battle of the ages, Dragos and his Minions unleashing a hell on Earth like nothing ever seen before, Chase and Tavia are thrust into the heart of the violence. With time running out and the streets running red with the blood of innocent lives, both Breed and human, together Chase and Tavia must find a way to defeat Dragos once and for all--or die trying

THE STORY:

Chase was at the edge of his Blood lust when he surrendered himself in order to protect his brethren. He was caught shooting someone (Dragos) who was pretending to be one of the Senator's acquaintances. Apparently that shooting was witnessed by the Senator's secretary Tavia Fairchild. She was raised as a human or so she thought. Created by Dragos along with his league of Gen One assaasins, Tavia had been one of the miraculous survivor female Gen One Breed. A never before heard Gen One female. She thought of herself human until that faithful night changed everything. Meeting Chase was the catalyst and so their bloody journey to HEA and uncovering secrets, discovering truths, and stopping their ultimate enemy has begun. XD

MY REVIEW:

I never thought Sterling Chase would be one of my favorite Breed warrior of the Order. But damn, he's proven to be such an irresistible one. xx

Gripping from the edge of blood lust, he met his salvation in the form of the beautiful Gen One Breed female named Tavia Fairchild. She was a wonder and a miracle to his kind. One of the first who were created by Dragos along with his breed of assassins. Tavia had been Chase' ultimate salvation. Chase had been Tavia's only truth (pardon for the lack of the right term). Anyway, this story did not disappoint me, oh well, none of the MB installment has so far. HAHA. I was hesitant but half excited to read Harvard's story because of what had happened but I'm sooo glad I did. Whoa. It was such an exciting, hot, emotional, bloody ride to HEA. I only like a bit of Harvard before. I mean I know he's got a story to tell and I felt sorry for what had happened but that was it. I never would have thought that upon reading his story, knowing him in a different perspective and in much more intimate level (okay, that will really happen if one was to read the REAL story, right? HAHA) I fell for him.. HARD. The feels. So much. His determination, his love, his honor, his courage. Damn. He left me no choice but to love him as much. Not even blood lust was able to consume him. He was able to fight it. Such will. Sigh. Waaa. Love his character. I also love Tavia. Raised as a human but eventually her true nature transpired. What she became when her real identity has been revealed. WHOA. She's hot and deadly. Love LA for what she did with her character. It was already at the back of my mind that Chase would be the one ending Dragos' life but what I have not anticipated (okay, maybe a lil) was the part contributed by Tavia on it. I mean, I knew she'll do something but holy cow, it's still a big surprise. Anyhow, I think there'll be more of Tavia in the upcoming MB installment. Certainly hope so. She'll be an asset to the order with her growing Gen One abilities. Eeeeh.

I am so glad also about the updates of the lives of the married members of the order esp. Lucan and Gabrielle's. Glad to hear more of them and their lil rift was just an icing to the cake. Yay. Love love love Lucan.

And before I forgot, in this book, the ever genius member of the Order made it hard for me to not to love him. He's such a gem! Always proven to be a useful and very reliable member of the Order! GIDEON, I sooo effin' love you! HAHA.

'Nuff said. This book was an awesome read. XD

MEMORABLE LINES | CONVO:

When he spoke, there was an odd vulnerability to his deep voice. As if he were letting her peek inside one of the dark chambers of the heart he seemed so sure he didn’t possess.

"You care about this female."
"I love her. That should be reason enough for me to let her go, right?"

"Press charges? Call the cops on me? Sweetheart, I’m a problem that no human law enforcement officer is going to solve for you."
