Don't let your hopes HIGH

Black Dagger Brotherhood? Sounds family? Yep, you got it right, it's a pnr series written by NYT best selling author- JR Ward. The fact that it's a paranormal series let alone a vampire revolving plot should make me yelling to the rafters.. right? But it doesn't. Sigh. 

After reading at least 5 books of BDB, I can't help but compare it to my most fave series like my latest conquer ( Midnight Breed by Lara Adrian ). It was not my intention but I can't help it. And upon comparing the two, I just realized how the former lacks in many aspects. Sigh again. x

BDB is always recommended to me by my friends so I got curious. I've seen it on my recs area on GR and even on the read and TBR list of my friends there and I've been itching to read it but there's always a part of me that's kind of holding back. Subconsciously I guess, it's telling me that I won't like the series so I listen to that small part of my brain and just let the series pass. But last month, I ran out of PNR series to read and it came to me- to read BDB or just try one book to see if I would like it. I am not really a sequence reader (if it's a series) I'd go for the book who's blurb excited me but this time (since my online sister advise me to read it by order) I did. So I got hold of Dark Lover (BDB #1) and started reading it. Nag-enjoy naman ako altho I have this feeling na parang may kulang. There are too many POVs. I justified it since it's the first book, maybe it's some sort of introduction so that the whole characters and premise will be known so I let it go. But as I;ve read book 2-5 (yeah I stopped reading at book 5), napatunayan kong ganoon pala talaga ang writing style ng writer and how it's told. All 5 books I've read have the same storyline, premise, climax, twist and the same scattered shifting of POV. Wth. I mean, wala na bang ibang magawa per book to define a specific character from the rest? Was this the series that has captured the imagination and devotion of millions of readers? Pugh. I did enjoy some scenes but I can't say I love the series as a whole. I may have my fave characters but too bad they aren't justified with a nice story with a nice twist. It could have been better if it's written differently but.. I guess that's the best of it. Kaya di ko na tinapos ang buong series and I just did some scanning on some of the books after 5. I think kasi parang un lang ang mangyayari talaga sa buong series, paulit-ulit and nothing new will ever come out.

I can't help but compare it to the latest series I'm currently reading as mentioned above. Same genre, same category but altogether different. Each book of MB has each own unique aspect that makes it different from the other. From the characters, storyline, twist, and the ending. Altho it includes the lives of the other character as it goes along, it doesn't forget it's own focus which is the MCs. Sigh Sigh Sigh. XDD

Anyhow, kind of disappointed with BDB but I can still recommend it to my fellow bookworms and PNR lover. Malay natin, magustuhan nila. Iba-iba naman kasi ang taste ng tao. Left? HAHA.
