Who wouldn't want to be a tall, dark, powerful vampire? Jake, for one. He's barely had time to adjust to his new state before he's roped into a family favor. Still, secretly playing bodyguard to sweet, sexy Nicole is turning out to be the wildest ride of his life. First he'll put a stop to whoever's targeting her. Then he'll prove that this kind of love, and luck, happens only once in an eternity.

INITIAL THOUGHTS:

When the blurb of this book was revealed, I was expecting it to be Bricker's story. I know I know, Lynsay already told me on twitter that JB is too young yet so I scratch that idea. I ransack my brain as to who it will be but came out nothing. Whyy? Haha. So when I read the synopsis and find out that a certain Jake Colson will be the hero it was like..WTH. Who's this guy? Where did he came from? Is he an enforcer? I got my panties in a twist thinking of so many possibilities. But the answer came straight to me when I visited Lynsay's website. Arg. He's a freakin' NOTTE. Imagine that? He's real name is STEPHANO JACOB COLSON NOTTE! That's why I did not recognize him because he uses Jake Colson as his name right after his turn and withdraw from his family. Bad JAKE. Haha. x
Enough said. Let's get the review. x

THE STORY:

Nicole is a portrait artist who is  currently dealing with her divorce and is experiencing minor death threats from her alleged soon-to-be-husband but she's not convinced of it. She thinks it was just all purely lil accidents but she surely needs a cook/housekeeper to keep her house in order while she is busy with all her work commissions. Enter Jake Colson, the newly-turned-vampire-cum bodyguard nephew of Marguerite who she ask for help in keeping Nicole safe as well as do the cooking and housekeeping among other things. (she definitely have some hidden MO :P). Still adjusting to him being a vampire even though his mother's husband and family is one, he still can't accept that he now belonged to that class. Growing up hating vampire then found out your family is one is a major major shock for him, adding to that was waking up one day he's among them because of some accident and they decided to turn him without permission. He hated everything and everything concerning this vampire business so he decided to vanish and lived as Jake Colson but still Marguerite finds him and that's when she offered the job. Haha. The ever match-maker intent on doing her magic once and again. So as Jake and Nicole unfolds the truth about these accidents they'll find themselves in lust and love with each other. x

STEPHANO JACOB COLSON NOTTE aka JAKE COLSON

Damn. He's one lucky vampire. No pun intended to the title. It fits tho. And damn Jake for not using his real name. I had one big headache upon thinking who the heck is he. LOL. Rawr. Makes me wanna take a bite at him and then kiss him senseless. Anyway, I can't say I really really fall hard, deep for Jake but there was something in him that makes me love him. He's not like the previous Argeneau men I've encountered, he's different. He's his own. He's handsome and sexy as sin, thanks to the Nano's but there's more to him that meets the eye. He's so cute while practicing cooking for Nicole and I remember Cale Valens in  him. Haha. They both suck at cooking. :P
Anyway,I did enjoy our time together hence the 3AM sleep and eyebags I've got. xx

NICOLE PHILLIPS

The talented artist who's in denial (according to Margeurite) that her ex-husband is intent on killing her (although she's right it's not her x-husband). I can't say she's pretty, just average maybe but her personality is what I really love about her. I think it was during the half or quarter to the end that I really began loving her. She's refreshing. I mean, the words coming out of her mouth, the wisdom, the in-depth understanding, the kindness, the humor in her. *sigh*

MY REVIEW:

It is an enjoyable read, unique to the other vampire books out there- credits to Lynsay for it. Although I am expecting more of this book, it did not disappoint me. Thanks to the hero who grows along with the story and a heroine who is a dear till the end. I love that I was able to get a glimpse of the previous characters of the series, like Marguerite, Julius, the NOTTE twins- Dante and Tomasso, Decker, Dani, Vincent and Jackie. I miss how they interact with each other as married couples and to the family. Yii. Now back to the story, at first I really thought it was the ex-hubby who's behind all the accidents aside from the motives, the evidences explains it well. That's when I'm wrong. Haha. Then enter Nicole's brother that I kind-of like but I was aghast when the twins or is it Margeurite insinuated it can be him because of the will. Another wrong for me. LOL. I get so many wrong assumptions on this book. So when Vincent and Jackie confirms and it's not the husband and will see if it's the brother even Nicole began entertaining the idea that also made me think it's him. HAHA. That's where my lil complain lies. The twist of the plot. I thought it will be like.. a BIG one but sad to say, it was just a lil unexpected villain-twist.  I did not expect that Jake is the target and the culprit is the Ball-Cap boy he arrested in the first chapter of the book. Like.. is that it? Did not even occur to me that it will be him on the last 2 serious attempts (the previous was all just pranks courtesy of Nicole's no-brain x-bubby) on Jake and Nicole. It did not fit with the plot and flow that was forming in my mind. Waa. I was expecting some more. Hmm. Well, that was an unexpected turn of events but it's okay I guess. I sill did enjoy the ride to hea. x

I love all the scenes esp. the hot smexy vampire-mate sex that left them as always unconscious. Haha. Love it. The lines are good, the twins even better. They're like a major part of this story that makes this a much more  enjoyable one. I was looking forward to more of them. I love their lines and convo's. Makes me laugh and swoon. Add NEIL to the list. I adored him. Damn. He's workaholic like Bastien and can't wait if Lynsay will make him a story. No Bricker in this story. I miss that guy. But new characters are introduced, new enforcers of Lucian! Yay.

MEMORABLE LINES/CONVO:

"Sorry. I can't seem to help myself. Every time I touch, smell, or-- hell, just look at you- I want to do things that would make a prostitute blush." - Jake

Her brain appeared to have dropped into her panties since meeting Jake. - Nicole ~

N: You're a pervert.
J: I am. For you.

His brain seemed to have one mode right now and that was the “Let’s get Nicole naked and . . .” mode. - Jake

“In case I didn’t make it clear earlier, Dan. Nicole is off limits. She’s mine. Don’t mess with her." - Jake

 BOTTOMLINE:

It is surely a recommended read esp if you're into unique vampire romance. Not just this book but the whole effin series. Promise, it is so worth it. Better read the previous books before reading this one esp. A Bite To Remember to get to know Jake and the circumstances of his turning plus if you don't want to get lost of the names and characters that's surely present in here, yeah, I recommend reading 1-18 first. Haha. Anyway, it's a stand-alone book so if you still want to try, go ahead and lez all be happy. x
